Overview

Random Acts South West

This incredible project saw the creation of 72 short films by young filmmakers of all backgrounds from across the South West over three years.

Our filmmakers explored subjects ranging from attitudes to body hair to plastic waste and homelessness to self storage. They created documentaries, dramas and animations and many other films that defy categorisation!

Funded by Arts Council England with support from the Lottery and in partnership with Channel 4, the project saw six films by South West filmmakers screened on Channel 4’s Random Acts TV slot. All the others can be accessed via the Random Acts Youtube page.

Part of a larger England-wide initiative, CTS managed the South West, while the ICA supported filmmakers in London and Screen South covered the South-East. Rural Media and Tyneside Cinema led in the Midlands and North of England respectively. In all the project saw the creation of 360 new short arts films.

The project relied on a network of mentors and partners across the region including Creative Youth Network, Spike Island, Formed Films, Aardman Animations, 8th Sense Media, University of the West Of England, University of Gloucestershire, The Engine Room, White Lantern, Rising Arts, Spike Island, University of Falmouth, Knowle West Media Centre, Create Studios, Engine House, Kaleider, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and Somerset Film.
