Overview

Second Light Bristol supported ten Black and Minority Ethnic young people from Bristol over 18-months to explore how they could develop a career in the media. Delivered in partnership with Firstborn Creatives, the project set out to support the group to take their first steps towards a career in the media industry.

The project took the group away on two intensive week-long residential training camps and offered each trainee two periods of work experience placements alongside regular film screenings, workshops and access to an individual professional mentor.

Over the course of the project, the group wrote, produced and directed three documentaries and five dramas, with each participant taking a key production role on each production.

Second Light Bristol was funded by the Lottery through UK Film Council’s First Light initiative and Skillset, as part of A Bigger Future, the training and education strategy for the UK film industry.
