BFI Film Academy offers opportunities for 16-25 year olds, anywhere in the UK, to get to know more about film and how to make a career in the screen industries. A range of accessible courses, workshops and events offers opportunities for those wanting to test the water through to those keen to hone their skills.

Our Stop Motion Animation course, is one of the Specialist courses offered by BFI Film Academy for 16-19 year olds and funded by the Department for Education and the National Lottery. All the Specialist courses run during school holidays for between one and two weeks and the programme is designed to develop more specific filmmaking skills. Each course offers a combination of workshops, practical skills, lessons and lectures, and sees leading industry professionals share unique insight into the filmmaking business with the students.

Short Courses

The BFI also runs a range of locally-based Short Courses 16-19 year olds delivered at over 50 locations across the UK and supported by the Department for Education, National Lottery, Screen Scotland and Northern Ireland Screen, offering introductory hands-on filmmaking courses to build knowledge and skills and show the different pathways into the industry.

Labs 16-25 year olds

At key cinemas across the UK, monthly Labs offer industry insight, practical masterclasses, professional advice and networking for young filmmakers. Each month focuses on a different element of the filmmaking process.

SCENE 16-25 year olds

SCENE is a quarterly event at cinemas across the UK where young filmmakers show their films and answer questions about their work, giving a unique opportunity to learn from filmmaking peers. Each event is followed by networking opportunities.
