We’re all really excited to announce that Calling the Shots is going to be the Network Partner in the South West for the Arts Council and Channel 4 series, Random Acts!
Over the next three years, we’ll be delivering 72 short films by young people aged from 16-24, but not only that. We’ll also be getting out around the region to find talent, delivering inspirational workshops, residential training camps, providing equipment and technical support, and teaming young filmmakers with a professional producer/mentor from.
Together these will provide a space for young filmmakers to be playful, challenged and inspired, and to develop and extend their work as screen artists.
We’ve got some amazing partners lined up, Spike Island, Arthur Cox Animation, Plymouth University School of Art and Design and University of Gloucestershire, Art and Power, Icon Films, Situations and the Creative Youth Network.
Phil Gibby, Area Director, South West, Arts Council England, said: ‘We are very pleased to be supporting Calling The Shots to lead the south west network for Random Acts. They have a strong track record of delivering inspiring and successful skills development projects and their plans to nurture new talent in the film sector will make easier the transition for young artists and filmmakers into the arts and creative industries. This is particularly relevant at a time when £8 million an hour for the UK economy is generated by the sector.
‘By creating an exchange between arts, education and creative media industries, this project will also explore how young people are creating and consuming arts and digital culture and help us to support the next generation of artists in the field.
