Delivered for three consecutive years, this project saw the Calling The Shots team working in primary schools and special schools across North Somerset to support school children to learn about film production and develop film literacy.

The project, part of the Curzon Cinema’s Prince’s Trust funded START, aimed to support students to explore their own creativity through film, understand how films are made and develop the skills to ‘read’ films.

Over the three years of the project, children made animations, dramas and documentaries. The project worked alongside teachers to help them to develop the confidence to manage the projects and develop their own understanding of the filmmaking process.

I couldn’t have wished for a better partner for the Start programme. The teachers and the children loved working with a professional filmmaker who supported them to make the film they wanted to see.

The quality of those produced is borne out by the number of films selected for Kids for Kids, The Coop Young People’s Film Festival, Electric December and KidzFlicks festival in Sydney and the fact that they won, between them, a number of awards was particularly pleasing for the schools involved.
